Poe's short story “The Raven“ made him a well-known author in America instantly. There are tales of children walking behind him on the street and flapping their arms and cawing. He would, so they say, play along by turning suddenly and saying "Nevermore."At the age of 26, Poe married Virginia Clemm, his 13 year old cousin. She died 12 years later from tuberculosis, and is believed to be the influence of Poe's work (where he made the young women die).

Edgar Allan Poe is known for his short stories, such as The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, The Angel of the Odd, and The Black Cat.Fun fact: Poe is considered "the inventor of the detective fiction genre."

Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. Poe lived a short life of 40 years. He was an American poet, editor, literary critic, and an author. He was known for his mysterious and unusual pieces of literature, which are now in every literacy book in America.
