Eclipses

Solar eclipses occur only at new moon. Every year about 2-3 solar eclipses occur. On the other hand, a lunar eclipse can only occer at full moon. About 2-3 lunar eclipses occur every year.

Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth is directly between the sun and the moon. The moon passes into Earth's umbra. The moon also appears red (a blood moon).

Solar eclipses occur whenthe moon is directly between the Earth and the sun. During a solar eclipse, you can see the sun's corona.

OCCURANCE

ECLIPSES

There are different kinds of certain eclipses; partial and total lunar eclipses and total and partial solar eclipses. Partialeclipses occur more often than total eclipses. Partial lunar eclipsesoccur when the moon passes through the penumbral shadow of theEarth. You can only see a partial solar eclipse if you are in moon's umbra.

If you were wondering, only solar eclipses can harm you. While staring at a solar eclipse, the lens of your eye will focus on the sunlight and burn your retina, also killing cells on your retina. This can make you blind.
