Evidence Based Treatments (EBT) for Children with Autism in Southern Maryland

DTT uses simplified steps to teach skills through a series of trials. After steps are taught they are then combined and built upon until the inividual can complete the skill. Each trial has a clear beginning which is signaled by an instruction, usually referred to as the discriminative stimulus (SD). The individual then gives a prompted or independent response. Errorless teaching is often implemented so the individual is successful and is able to access reinforcement. (another EBT) Then, reinforcement is delivered for the correct response.

Discrete Trial Training (DTT)

Functional Communication Training (FCT)

FCT looks at the function of a behavior a child is engaging in and provides a communication replacement that serves the same function. This teaches the child that they can access the same desired action, item, or person by using communication versus challenging behavior.

These interventions are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). You can access these services at the only clinic in the Southern Maryland Area that provides ABA services.
