-White was the youngest child of 6-White served in the army a few years prior to going to college where he earn his Bachelor of Art degreeHe picked up the nickname "Andy" at Cornell University, where tradition confers that moniker on any male student surnamed White, after Cornell co-founder Andrew Dickson White-lived during the Era of Regionalism, Modernism, Harlem Renassance, and Contemporary- E.B White favorite quote "I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority"E. -He won the Gold Medal for Essays and Criticism from the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1960, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1963, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his children's books in 1970, and the National Medal for Literature in 1971. Life

-graduated from Cornell Universirty in 1921-he pursed a career in Journalism -He worked for the United Press and the Seattle Times before eventually landing a position with The New Yorker magazine in 1927 which he would hold until death-E.B White got his start by writing little scripts and poem in the New York magazine-married Katharine in 1929
