Accomplishments

Apr 29, 1899 - May 24, 1974

Duke Ellington evolved the genre of Jazz. By proof of hisl receiving numerous awards, Ellington is regarded as a jazz icon. Elington is a composer, pianist, and a band leader. During this time, jazz is a common genre of music to listen to; however, Ellington stands out because of his pursuit to establish the "perfect synthesis between soloist and the orchestra...achieving a unity of purpose that was consistently greater than the sum of its parts" (New World Encyclopedia). All in all, Ellingtons's focus and skill directed towards the meticulous aspects of jazz, put that genre to another level of brilliance and sophistication.

Lasting Impact

Through his music and through his rectitude, Ellington transcends the limits imposed on black musicians who are generally seen as mere entertainers.

Because he was so religious, and anything that downed religion had to be wrong. Additionally, 'he liked the idea of one day becoming rich'"( Teachout). Thus, Duke Ellington is a Republican.
