Victor Chang

Victor Chang was born 21 November 1936 Shanghai, China. When he was two he moved to Hong Kong to escape the invaded Japanese. Life was incredibly harsh under the Japanese army. Ten years later his mother died of breast cancer prompting him to consider a career in medicine. In 1953 he moved to Australia to visit extended family. Then, on April 20 1968 he married Ann Simmons. Sixteen years later he performed the world's first heart transplant on Fiona Coote. Two years later he performed the first Australian heart-lung transplant. The same year he was awarded Australian of the Year. Five years later on the 4 July 1991 Victor Chang was killed in an extortion attempt which ended in his life being taken. He was posthumously awarded Australian of the Century in 2000.

Victor Chang was born in Shanghai on the 21st of November 1936 in Shanghai, China. He died on the 4th of July 1991, because of an extortion attempt.He was a well regarded surgeon and his death was mourned by thousands across the world.
