With the help of Dr. Quentin Deming at Columbia University ' Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshira University; she discovered the link between high cholesterol and clogged arteries. Heart attacks was what caused her further research. The extended research: sugar on arteries and the effects of cigarette smoke in lungs In 1988, Daly established a scholarship fund for African American science students at Queens College. After all her education Dr. Daly taught at Howard University and Columbia University. Daly also conducted further research at Fockefeller Institute of Medince in NYC on composition and metabolism of components of the cell nucleus.

Her father Ivan C. Daly influenced her love for Chemistry. Lack of financial assistnace led Marie Daly to become a lab assistant at Queens college to pay for her Chemistry graduate degree at NYU. Dr. Daly studied under Dr. Mary Caldwell who was a chemist and nutrionist who helped women in the field of Chemistry. Dissertation: "A Study of the Products Formed by the Action of Pancreatic Amylase on Corn Starch." Dr. Daly was a member of Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa, the New York Academy of Science, the American Association for Advancement of Science.
