Donatello

Donatello was born in Florance, France. He was born around 1386. His father was Niccolo di Betto Bardi. Donatello Got his unique style by being an apprentice of many famous artists and sculptors. His reputation put him right behind Michelangelo.

Accomplishments

1403 - Apprenticed Lorenzo Ghiberti1415 - Donatello completed the marble statue of a seated St. John the Evangelist

In 1450, Donatello made a bronze statue called Gattamelata, showing Erasmo riding a horse in full battle dress, without a helmet. This was the first equestrian (horseback) statue cast in bronze since the Romans.His lifelong friendship with the Medici family got him a retirement allowance to live on the rest of his life. He died of unknown causes on December 13, 1466.
