Did You Know?Mendeleev was the youngest of 14 children in his family.He worked on school even with tuberculosis and was in bed. He graduated as top of his class.

Besides organizing elements, Mendeleev also founded the Russian Chemical Society. He also became Director of the Russian Bureau Of Weights in 1890.

Mendeleev's Period Table (1869)

In 1869, Mendeleev attempted to organize the 65 known elements by using cards. As he wrote down the atomic weights, he realized that the atomic mass was important somehow. He fell asleep and had a dream of how the elements should be organized, and ended up writing it down when he woke up.
