Definition The process of purifying a liquid by boiling it and condensing its vapors. Steps 1) Select the heat source. 2) Clean, dry and assamble the apparatus for distillation. 3)Turn on the cold water supply for the condenser. 4)Add the liquid that is going to be distilled to the distillation pot. 5) Heat the liquid and and collect the product in the receiving flask.6) Leave the apparatus cooling, and dissamble it.

Types
The vapor is immediately channeled into a condenser; consequently, the distillate is not pure. However its composition is identical to the composition of the vapors at the given temperature and pressure.
Different volatile 'fractions' are collected as they are produced
A method for distilling compounds which are heat-sensitive. The temperature of the steam is easier to control than the surface of a heating element, and allows a high rate of heat transfer without heating at a very high temperature.
