The x-ray is an innovation that can see through many types of matter. Materials that absorb the rays most show up as white shapes on an x-ray photograph(radiograph). For example, products in our bones absorb x-rays making them show up white on an x-ray. Air intakes the least amount of rays, therefore lungs would show up black on an x-ray photograph.
In November of 1895, Wilhelm Rontgen discovered x-rays. He did this by studying a nearby fluorescent light. Rontgen thought the light radiating was formed from some kind of rays. Little did he know, Wilhelm Rontgen had just discovered the x-ray. A week after the discovery Wilhelm took an x-ray of his wife's hand. Her wedding ring showed up black on the image, letting Rontgen know it did not absorb the rays. Rontgen elaborated his studies on x-rays so much that he received a Nobel Prize in 1901. Many people thought he stole the idea considering they hadn't heard of x-rays. Rontgen did not accept any credit for the discovery of the x-ray.
