THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM!

First stop: Mouth!

We start digestion here! In this stop, the food gets mechanically break up by our chewing action and the food become smaller pieces, hence having more surface area for easier digestion.

Second stop: Oesophagus!

Then, we carry on to the oesophagus. Also known as the gullet, the oesophagus is a muscular tube where the food we swallowed move through. Peristalsis aids in slowing down the food movement down to the stomach.

Third stop: Stomach!

Forth stop: Small Intestine!

Fifth stop: Large Intestine!

Once the bolus reaches the stomach, its protein would be chemically digested by the protease found in the digestive juices, and the churning action would physically break down the food into even smaller pieces. The chyme would then pass to the duodenum

The three main parts of it are, duodenum, jejunum and ilium. Most chemical digestion occurs at the duodenum. The ilium is where most of the absorbtion of the nutrients take place. The enzymes that digests the molecules in the duodenum mostly come from the pancreas and transferred through the pancreatic duct!

Last but not least, the large intestine absorbs water from the remaining indigestible food, and stores the waste materials at the rectum! It also abosrbs vitamins created by the bacteria in the colon! Do you know that it contains more that 700 different bacterias?

Reflections. :)
