Dialysis
Hemodialysis-The blood passes through a machine to be "cleaned" through a catheter in the patients nondominant arm.
There are 2 methods of dialysis:1) Hemodialysis &2)Peritoneal Dialysis
-cleans the blood of toxins brought on by acute renal disease or end-stage renal disease.
Peritoneal Dialysis-Using a catheter placed in the peritoneal cavity, a dialyzing solution is passed through and drained later.
Dialysis IS NOT A CURE!!
The Toxins include..-Urea-Creatinine-Uric Acid-poisons-drugs
The machine used for hemodialysis is called an artificial kidney
Takes 30 minutes and done 4x a day, 7 days a week.
A benefit of hemodialysis is a lower risk of infection
This is a process of 4 hoursand 3x a week on average!
Renal disease is when your kidneys can no longer excrete the waste and/or toxins.
