What is a Desert?A desert is a landscape or region that receives an extremely low amount of precipitation. It recieves less than 250mL annually. There are different types of deserts. Deserts cover about 20% of the Earth's surface. They can often have temperature extremes where it is freezing at night and very hot at day

Desert Communities

Desert regions are often thought of as lifeless wastelands, nothing but sand. But actually, sand covers less than 30% of the world's desert areas.

Cold Deserts:are located near the Arctic part of the world.e.g. Antarctica. In cold deserts, very few plants and animals can survive there. The main form of precipitation is snow

There are 2 types of deserts

Hot Deserts:are located near the Tropic of Cancer or Tropic of Capricorn. These deserts are extremely hot and dry. The main form of precipitation is rain but it doesn't get much!
