Dengue Fever. (Dandy Fever, Seven-Day Fever, Break-bone Fever)
Symptoms:- High fever, severe headache, severe pain behind the eyes, joint pain, muscle and bone pain, rash, and mild bleeding
Description of the Virus:-Roughly spherical-surrounded by an envelope-RNA
How Does Dengue Fever Attack?-Attaches to the surface of a host cell-enters cell through endocytosis. -virus fuses with the endosomal membrane and is released into the cytoplasm. -virus particle comes apart, releasing the viral genome
Can You Protect Yourself?-minimize the area of where mosquitos can lay eggs-reduce risk of mosquitos entering indoors-reduce risk of being bit by mosquitos -There are no vaccines to prevent infection!
What is the Dengue's host?-Ae. aegypti mosquito cells-human cells!
Where Is Dengue Found?-Areas where Ae. aegypti mosquitos live-mostly tropical, urban areas
