Democratic Republic

The Democratic Republican Party attracted Southerners and owners of farms. They supported strong state governments and agricultural businesses. They believed the government should be run by normal citizens, not just wealthy educated men, but by even the poorest and lowest of people. They also usually sided with the French while the Federalists sided with the British.
