Early Renaissance
The term Renaissance, literally means "rebirth" and is the period in European civilization immediately following the Middle Ages, conventionally held to have been characterized by a surge of interest in classical learning and values.
Classical learning and wisdom were brought back to life after years of decline and stagnation. Art became more realistic, scholarship once again became an important factor in everyday life, and the feudal system was cast away.
Every area of life was affected after the availability of books became more widespread. Religious, intellectual, and other areas of life were greatly affected. Practically every portion of Europe had access to books within a short time.
During the Renaissance, the dominant forms of literature were through poetry and drama. Theatre in Renaissance England quickly changed from a festival event into a cultural institution.
An ever-increasing number of writers were able to publish their works, literacy rates rose, language gradually became more uniform, and an early form of modern English began to emerge.
