The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott. Fitzgerald
This is a quote from Nick Carraway he is actually quoting his father and even though this is the first quote in the book Nick does not follow it as the rest of the book is full of Nick's judgement.
I think Nick's colors were bland to show that he was in the background and not actually the main charecter of the novel.
Although Nick is the one narrating the story I think he is just the conduit that tells the tale of Gatsby and Daisy. Using Nick as the narrator Fitzgerald was able to tell more of the story such as Gatsby's death wich Gatsby would not have been able to tell if he were the narrator.
Some of the benefits that the story got from Nick being a backgroung charecter were, we got to see how Daisy lived before here ruinon with Gatsby, Tom's affair on Daisy and what other people would have thought of Gatsby before they met him.

Nick is actually a backgroung charecter.
