Danny Attended North Platte High School. Which is in North Platte, Nebraska. In his senior season Woodhead lead his team to their first ever undefeated season. However, they lost in the third round of the playoffs. Woodhead finished as Nebraska's Class A leading rusher, as well as Nebraska's Class A all-time leading rusher with 4,891 yards.

After much consideration Woodhead decided to play football at. Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. His Freshman year he rushed for 1,840 yards. In his sophmore year Woodhead carried the ball 278 times for 1,769 yards, averaging 6.4 yards per carry, and 21 touchdowns. , Woodhead rushed for 2,740 yards, a new all-division single season rushing record in his junior year. In his junior year he lead his team to the playoffs when they lost in the second round. Woodhead accumulated 7,441 yards on the ground, for his career, giving him a career average of 190.8 yards per game. He rushed for more than 200 yards in 19 of his 39 appearances and scored in 37 consecutive games, both of which are NCAA all-division records.

He was the first athlete to recieve a full scholorship in Chardon State College histroy.

Halfway through his senior year he became college football’s all-time leading rusher

In his college cplaying days he recorded 9,259 all-purpose yards, which is ranked second on the NCAA all-time list.

Woodhead went undrafted in 2008, however the jets and him came to an agreement undrafted rookie free agent contract. He was re-signed to the Jets' practice squad on September 8. Unfortunetly Woodhead was released by the Jets organization on September 14, 2010. However was signed by the New England Patriots on September 18, 2010. On November 19, 2010, Woodhead signed a two-year contract extension with the Patriots, through the 2012 season. In 2012 Woodhead caught a touchdown pass in super bowl XLVI. Aftrer jis contract expired in 2012 he signed with the chragers for the 2013 season. In his first season he led all NFL running backs with six touchdown receptions and was second with 76 catches for 605 yards in the regular season. He also had 106 carries for 429 yards, averaging 4.0 yards per attempt, for an overall 1,034 yards and eight touchdowns. However his 2014 season was cut short after he suffered a broken fibula in the third week of the season.
