Daniel webster knew how to move people with the power of the spoken word. Daniel and henry clay both authored the compromise of 1850 . The compromise was the final one before the civil war , the last attemt to end the argument over slavery . It had brough into effect the fugitive slave law . He stood on the issue of slavery and what he did to limit it. He also staned aliented antislavery forces and divided the whig party , although it helped to preserve the union .

Daniel webster- Born in january 18, 1782- Died in october 24, 1852 age of 70 - in Salisbury, New hapshire. - Elected to the U.S house of representative in 1812-won a seat in the U.S senate - He grew up on a farm and worked on a farm in the warm weather .- Atended local school in the winter .- Served as secretary of state - Married grace flecher in 1808- Had four sons -Learned the law by working for a lawyer

-Daniel was the leading american senator from Massachusetts during the period that lead to the civil war. Webster had also apposed the war of 1812. He was elected a New Hampshire congressman in 1813. He opposed the war of 1812 and hinted at nullification . Webster returned to the u.s. senate in 1845 . when they had authored the compromise of 1050 that brough into effect the figitive slave law . that was the final one before the civil war . He was a really great orator for the north who strongly supported abolition of slavery .

- Daniel webster was also a fervent christian. - He had also made a statment regarding the importance of the christian faith in perserving and prospering .- " if religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this county , i do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If trust be not diffused , then error will be . If God and his word are not known and received , the devil and his work will gain the ascendency. If the power of the gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of this land, anarchy and misrule , degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end."
