This is the local map!

The Czech Republic is almost entirely surrounded by mountains (except to the south, toward Austria and Slovakia). Mountains mark a natural border with Germany and Poland.

Czech is a Slavic language, a distant cousin to Russian but more similar to Slovak and Polish. Nearly anyone who works in a hotel, restaurant or tourist center will be able to speak at least some English.

There are over 2,000 castles, keeps, and castle ruins in the Czech Republic, one of the highest density in the world (notably after Belgium and France).

Czech families are usually very small, averaging one or two children per family. A married couple with a child will usually see the mother staying at home to care for the child in its very early years.

In 1991, 46.4% of Czech Republic population was Roman Catholic and Evangelical & Lutheran equalled 5.3%. 29.5% are Atheist.
