Cyberbullying can be done in a variety of ways – cruel rumors, harassment, threats, embarrassing pictures, and even cyber stalking. Bullies can use e-mail, social networking sites, text messages, instant messages, and websites. Anyone can be a victim, but teenagers are particularly vulnerable.Cyberbullies often feel safer behind the mask of the internet. They are anonymous and often difficult to trace. Some cyberbullies use this anonymity as a weapon because they do not have to see the faces of those they hurt – they don’t have to think about how it affects their victims. Sadly, bullying done online spreads quickly and leaves the victim feeling even more humiliated and vulnerable than traditional bullying.Whoever coined the phrase, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me” lied. Words DO hurt. They leave wounds that never heal. Victims of cyberbullies feel depressed and withdraw, often causing harm to themselves or others.
