John F. Kennedy
On January 20, 1961, the handsome and charismatic John F. Kennedy became president of the United States. Assassinated 1964.
Vietnam became the American government’s top priority committing to anti-communist South Vietnam. Young AMericans protested against the war and some fled to Canada to avoid the draft.
Student activists grew more radical. They took over college campuses, organized massive antiwar demonstrations and occupied parks and other public places.
