Girl Before a Mirror is a painting by Pablo Picasso that was painted in March, 1932. 'Girl Before a Mirror' shows Picasso's young mistress Marie-Therese Walter. Half of her face is pink and smooth and appears placid. On the other side of her face is a very course face. This side of her face is very 'made up' with lipstick, blush and green eyeshadow. This represents the two sides of the lady, a young innocent one and then a womanly figure. In the mirror she appears older and darker, her womanly body is twisted.

Cubism artwork was influenced by Native American and African art. The best known Cubism artist's were Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Gris. This artwork is primarily done in paint. The characteristic about these artworks s that they are captured unlike photo's but in a 'linear perspective'. The object gets smaller as the image recedes.

CUBISM

Pablo Picasso's most famous painting is know to be his piece called 'Three Muscisians'. This artwork was painted in early 1921 and now hangs in the New York Museum of Modern Art. This painting is more than 2 metres wide and high.

Cubism is an early 20th century art movement that developed European paintings and sculptures. It inspired related movements in music, architecture and literature. Cubism stated in the 1910's and continued throughout the 1920's.

In Cubism artwork, objects are examined, broken up and then put back together in an abstract form. This is shown in the painting by Pablo Picasso, 'Girl Before a Mirror' as it is Cubism artwork.

Pablo Picasso was born on October 25th 1881 and died on April 8th 1973. During his life he constructed many paintings that are now extremely famous. He was the one who started the art movement Cubism. Pablo Picasso married two women, Jaqueline Roque and Olga Khokhlova. He had four children, two sons and two daughters.
