In 1511, a spanish force defeated Taino easily, and formed 7 new cities including Cuba's capital, Havana. In 1902 Cuba became independent, but it was heavily influenced by the U.S. In 1959 revolutionaries took over Cuba and have been fully independent ever since.

History

Cuba is split into 14 provinces. The provinces are split into 170 municipalities. Each municipalitie is governed by an assembly elected by the local people.The currency is the Cuban peso. The country is worth 114.1 billion dollars. Cuba's leader is Raul Castro.

Government

Cuba has the most beach area than any other Caribbean island. The highest point of Cuba is 6,578 feet tall. Cuba's area is 42,802 SQMI. The costline is 2,075 miles long. Close to the Tropic Of Cancer, Cuba has a warm, dry climate. The rainy season occurs from May to October. In late summer and fall hurricanes strike Cuba.

Geography

In Cuba food is scarce so everyone gets the same so cooks mix spanish and caribbean styles of food to make the food taste better. In Cuba school is very important so every child goes to school for free. Cuba's holidays are New Year's (1-1-14),International Worker's Day (5-1-14), National Rebllion Day (7-26-14), Anniversary of war of independence (10-10-14).
