Interest in science begins in primary!
Although science is not a tested area in 5th grade, students still deserve quality science instruction. With the current emphasis on STEM education and careers, a lab is essential in order to motivate and increase interest in science for Highland Elementary students!
To create a permanent, designated, and well-equipped space for a science lab for fifth grade students to explore and experiment with topics aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
GOAL
Although research exists to support both the pro and the con sides of hands-on science instruction relating to student achievement, most studies concur that student motivation is definitely increased through hands-on science activities/experiments.
