Cross River Gorilla

Endangered Animals

Main Threats Habitat LossThe majority of cross river gorilla groups live in unprotected forests and are at threat because of habitat loss through local people cutting down trees and preparing timber for agricultural purposes and cattle grazing.Hunting and Poaching The hunting, trading and consumption of gorillas [and other apes] is almost universally illegal in all Congo Basin countries, So why do people still hunt these great apes ? Its because of lack of reinforcement of national and international laws.

Cross River Gorillas eat fruit, bark, pith, terrestrial herbs and leaves. Although they seem to prefer fruits this is scarce in the dry season so they must find other sources of nutrition
