Mini Report by: Jasmine Wilson
-caused by hyperactive sebaceous glands in the skin of new born babies.. The scalp normally produces oil to protect the scalp but once it builds up, its called cradle cap. -due to the mother's hormones still in the baby's system.
Causes
Cradle shows signs rather than symptoms or complications. -Signs: greasy, yellow or brown patches on top of the baby's head-Affected skin area may appear red-Scales & flakes on the scalp-Yellow crusts on the scalp - It is advised not to pick or scratch at the patches because an infection might develope.
-Usually starts on scalp but may develop to the back of ears or other parts of the body.(Like nose, armpits, or backs of knees, etc) - if it does spread then it would be called eczema.
Symptoms/ Complications
-Shampoo the baby's scalp once a day with a good quality and low acidic shampoo.-Lavender oil is a natural way to use, apply it to baby's scalp and leave it on overnight, then shampoo away.-Also you can warm up baby oil and dilute it with Witch Hazel and apply it to the scalp, Olive oil and having a good diet if your breast feeding helps with the treatment.
