OCTOBER NEWS:As part of a new series on College & Career Readiness, Nebo will start offering free monthly webinars on the college planning process for parents and their high school students. Statistics show that less than 9% of all students who enter a 4 year college both graduate in 4 years and do so without debt. We believe timely information from industry professionals could dramatically move that needle. Please register and you will have access to the recording for 30 days after each webinar. They will begin September 22 and continue through October. These appointments are for students/parents to come and meet with a scholarship representative at our office to learn more about the scholarship, have their transcripts reviewed and receive answers to their questions. Our target students are 9th and 10th graders. To sign up students can go to are excited to begin our 2015 Regional “You Can Pay for College” Nights. We will begin each event with a 30 minute financial aid presentation, followed by a college fair. Keep in mind that these events are open to anyone who is interested in going to college, however, only 9th -12th graders are eligible for the scholarships. Students and parents can attend any of UHEAA’s events to learn about paying for college and talk to representatives from Utah’s colleges & universities. October Local Scholarships:Comcast Leaders & Achievers: Senior with leadership ability/experience. Due October 9th to Counseling Center.Horatio Alger: Senior who demonstrates financial need, displays integrity and perseverance in the face of adversity, 2.0 minimum GPA. Due October 25th.HOBY: A great leadership opportunity to attend the Hugh O Brian Leadership Conference. Potential for scholarship. MMHS can nominate 2 students for HOBY. Counselors will be holding CCR meetings in the month of October and November for sophomores and juniors. Look for your postcard in the mail.October 19-22-Hope Week. Our suicide prevention group known as the Hope Squad will have various activities this week to help students with suicide awareness/prevention. This is also Red Ribbon Week, and will be filled with different activities for drug/bullying prevention. October 26-College Tour from 8-10:30a.m. at MMHS. College representatives from all major colleges and universities in Utah help seniors learn more about their campus programs, financial aid, admissions, etc. We encourage seniors to wear their best dress this day.
