Coronary Heart Disease

A part of the heart does not receive sufficient oxygen and nutrients due to blocked blood flow. That part of the heart muscles dies. The heart is no longer able to pump blood to the other parts of the body.

Heart Attack!

-common heart disease-coronary arteries lie on the outside of the heart & carry blood to the muscles in the walls of the heart-blood supply to the heart muscles reduced due to blockage of coronary arteries-thus causing heart attack

Atherosclerosis- The inner surface of the coronary arteries may be deposited with fatty substances eg cholestrol & saturated fats.Thrombosis- a blood clot that forms in an artery. The affected artery develops a rough inner surface, increasing the risk of a blood clot being trapped in the artery. The supply of blood & oxygen to the heart muscles may be cut off. oxygen is needed in respiration to release energy for muscle cell activities. Without oxygen, heart muscles will be damaged & heart attack occurs.

-Proper diet. Polysaturated plant fats should replace animal fats so that they do not stick to the inner surface. This may lower the cholesterol level.-Proper stress management.-Stop smoking. Cigarette smoke contains nicotine & carbon monoxide that increases risk of coronary heart diseases.-Regular physical exercise. It strengthens the heart & maintains the elasticity of arterial walls. It can reduce high blood pressure.
