Confucianism

Confucianism relates to Christianity, Taoism and Islam because they were some of the religions that were spreaded to China about 2,000 years ago. Confucianism was also based off of Buddhist and Taoist elements which became Neo-Confucianism. Neo-Confucianism reflects the teaching of Li (Law) and Hsin (Mind).

Social harmony and family is the ultimate goal of every follower. The five cardinal relations include: Ruler and subject; father and son; husband and wife, elder and younger brother, friend to friend.

960 - 1279 AD(Song Dynasty)

Confucianism spread all over china and neighboring countries, such as Vietnam, Korea, and Japan. One of the reasons is the popularity of Confucius. Although having been taught for centuries, Confucianism eventually became less influential in China after the fall of the Han dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE). At this time, followers of different religions began sharing new ideas with people, and Confucianism started to decrease. However, nearly 1,000 years later, its teachings were revived.

The 5 Virtues of Confuciaism:1.) Ren: humaneness(compassion)2.) Yi: honesty and righteousness3.) Li: propriety and correct behavior4.) Zhi: wisdom or knowledge5.) Xin: fidelity and sincerity Other than these principles, there are not any specific practices that Confucianism followers must abide by; instead, they use practices from other religions.

Confucianism does not practice any type of prayer, but is primarily an ethical system where rituals are performed during certain important events in one's life. These rituals are very important to Conficians and are critical to the religion. There are four main life passagges that, by tradition, confusionists celebrated by using Li since the time of the Han dynasty.These passages are birth, marriage, coming of age and maturity, and death.

Women were at the bottom of the Confucian hierarchy. By custom, aristocratic men and women lived separately. As children, girls were required to obey their fathers; as wives, women were required to obey their husbands; and as widows, women were required to obey their grown-up sons. At no point in her life was a woman, according to the traditional Confucian view, expected to function as an autonomous being free of male control.
