Evolution of the Laptop/ComputerBy: Shamel Basaria 8A IDT

500 B.C.

The Abacus was invented by the Chinese around 500 B.C.. It can be used to make binary simple, easy, and help explain arithmetic calculations, which is the basics of the math. Since it can do all of these things, it is also considered a computer.

The Z1 was the first programmable computer which was invented by Konrad Zuse in 1936. It had about 20000 parts, and it had an energy source of 1kW, the only electrical unit of the Z1. It had 6 main parts which were the control unit, arithmetical unit, input/output such as keyboard and binary conversions, memory, memory selector which interpreted the memory, and tape reader which was used for programing.

The Whirlwind Machinewas the first computer that stored RAM. It was created in 1955 by MIT. It was the fastest computer at the time, and it also it introduced Director. Director was a way of having commands for the computer on paper tape.

In 1981, the Osborne 1 was invented as the first portable computer by Adam Osborne. It has 64K RAM, a built in 5 inch monitor, an external power source, and it came with many softwares.

The Poqet PC was a pocket sized laptop that was very easy to carry and was the first PC similar to a Netbook. The Netbook has a similar way of flipping the screen up or down. It was released in 1989 by Poqet Computer Corporation. Another fascinating fact that made this popular was that it could go weeks with two AA batteries.

The Windows XP Tablet was the first tablet like laptop, and it was invented in 2005. It was not touchscreen, but it had a stylus which was compatible for drawing. It had a improvements to Office 2003 and handwriting recognition. It also allowed users to fill in digital forms and enter a URL.

The first ever IPad was released in 2010. It was the first ever Apple product that was the first touchscreen tablet. At first, it had an A4 CPU running on IOS 4 and now it has an AX8 CPU that is running on IOS 8. It has become much more complex with Touch ID, better display, and much smaller for portability.

Windows 10 was released on July 29, 2015. It has many new things such as Cortana which is similar to Siri, a really fancy start menu, multiple desktops, and it is easy to use.

Computers today have huge processors such as i7, they have more memory that stores petabytes, and soon they will become so small that they are portable just like laptops. Today laptops are 360 degree rotating, much faster with large processors such as i7, and they have become our note takers. Soon they will be controlled mainly by hand sensors but also the keyboard and mouse.

Now and Future

The Apple IIe was created in 1983. It was one of the most successful Apple computer ever. It was based on the processor which could run at 1.02 MHz. It contained ProDOS which was a new operating system which wasn't included in the previous versions. It was used in businesses, schools, and homes and was very popular unlike the Apple III which failed at doing these. The main goal was to succeed in creating a professional computer for business.
