COLOR Explorations

Read "Hailstones and Halibut Bones" and find out how one person describes color. Write your own color poem about your favorite color!

Follow this link and do this assignment: http://assignments.discoveryeducation.com/?cdPasscode=T9A7E-BF95. You will need to put in your student code.

Activity #1: After listening to "Mouse Paint," create your own "mouse paint" by mixing white glue and food dye. Make red, blue and yellow paint. Use ear swabs as fuzzy mouse feet and "dance" on white card stock. Predict the color you will get from the colors mixing. Activity #2: Add 3-4 tablespoons of light corn syrup to a sandwich Ziploc bag and slightly flatten the bag so the sypup is spread across the bottom. Add 2 drops of yellow food color to one side and 1 drop of blue food color to the other side. Squish and move the color until it mixes and observe the color change.

If you go to this site, you can play with prisms and light just like Isaac Newton. Try it: http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/newton/
