Most Coal deposits are found in North America in and around Pennsylvania, USA. They are also found in other parts of the interior plains in Canada. Infact Coal deposits are throughout the whole globe in almost any country. Ever wonder how potential coal reserves are discovered? The process usually involves creating a geological map of the area, then carrying out geochemical, and geophysical surveys, followed by exploration drilling. The area will only become a mine if it is large enough and of sufficient quality that the coal can be economically recovered. After this is all complete, the mining begins. Through studies, people believe that there are massive deposits of coal in Alaska near the Western Arctic . These remote deposits have only been poorly explored, and it is unknown of how much of this coal will prove to be economically easy to mine.

Coal is a very reliable resource for energy, that is, it creates alot of electricity. Unfortunately, coal is limited, and every day we lose more and more of it. On the bright side, there are ways to preserve coal so that it doesn't become an extinct resource in the future. The first thing we can do is use renewable sources of energy because they do not create pollution, and they can help us save alot of coal. Examples of renewable resources are solar power, and wind energy. Secondly, we can remember to turn off any electrical appliances, and lights in our homes that are not in use to save electricity, which leads to saving coal. Furthermore, consider letting in natural light and the warmth of the sun to keep our rooms bright and cozy. This will keep the cost of electricity down in our homes and help the environment.
