CLOSE READS
"Close reading is an instructional routine in whichstudents critically examine a text, especially throughrepeated readings (Fisher ' Frey, 2012, 179)."
TEACHER: * familiar with text* develop text-dependent questions*frontload as necessary
1. Focus on the questions that students explore as part of their reading.2. Particaption in discussion as they read and re-read the text. 3. Post-read task that relate directly to th text and not personal experience. (Fisher ' Frey, 2013).

Benefits: teaches students to slow down, take a closer look, and pay attention.( Schneider, 2007)
In My 1st Grade Classroom:*read text to students*choose non-fiction text that incorporates science and social studies to meet CCSS. *Do in small reading groups *model by thinking out loud.
