Cassandra Clare was born in Teheran , Iran to American Parents. She moved around a lot as a child and found companionship in books, often keeping one with her everywhere she went. She went to high school in Los Angeles and would write short stories for her classmates. After college, Clare worked for entertainment magazines in New York and in Los Angeles. She began writing her first book, The City of Bones, in 2004, and started writing fiction books full time in 2006.

Tessa Gray is rescued by Will and Jem from the Dark Sisters and is taken to the London Instituit where she learns about the Shadow Hunters. They make a deal with her that if they help her find her brother, she will help them find the Magister. An army of clockwork creatures are being created by the Magister to start a war with the Shadow Hunters and a group of them attack the Instituit to kidnapp Tessa. How will she escape the Magister this time?

Tessa Grey has traveled from New York to England to live with her brother, who left america seeking a job in London. Little does she know what she has gotten herself into when she arrives and is not greeted by her brother, but is kidnapped by the Dark Sisters, two warlocks that have been entrusted to train her to use her power for the Magister.
