Cleopatra

Cleopatra69 B.C-30 B.C

She had a relationship with the Roman ruler, Julius Caesar, and they had a son named, Caesarion. The link between Rome and Egypt made Cleopatra’s reign much stronger.

Her family, the Ptolemaic Dynasty, ruled Egypt for nearly 100 years before she was born in 69 B.C

After Julius Caesar was killed by his enemies in 44 BC, Cleopatra then sided with Mark Antony against Caesar’s son and legal heir, Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus

Cleopatra was of Macedonian Greek origin and her family came to Egypt when Alexander the Great invaded.

After her father Ptolemy XII died, Cleopatra rose to power over Egypt in 51 B.C

Cleopatra is often shown to be beautiful in movies, books and plays. However, historians have discovered statues and coins that show her with a long, hooked nose and a masculine built face.

As a result, Mark Antony committed suicide and at the age of 39, Cleopatra committed suicide alongside him. The popular belief is that Cleopatra allowed a type of poisonous snake called an asp bite her.

Cleopatra had a relationship with Mark Antony and had three more children with him.

Mark Antony’s troops were defeated by Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus at the Battle of Actium.

It is often said that Cleopatra bathed in milk in order to preserve her skin and keep her looking youthful.
