Claude Monet
Claude Monet is a French painter from the late 1800's, who is considered by some to be the Father of Impressionism. His father was a grocer who wanted him to go into the family business, but Claude's aunt intervened and he went to art school instead.Monet’s first success as an artist came when he was 15, with the sale of caricatures he drew very carefully and became locally famous for. After marrying his muse, Camille, he started painting the landscapes and seascapes he became famous for later in his life. The term Impressionism was coined from an insult, which Monet took as a supreme compliment.
En Plein AirIn 1867 Monet met fellow artist Eugéne Boudin who became his mentor and taught him how to use oil paints. They painted nature "in open air," observing variations of color and light caused by daily or seasonal changes.
