Claude Debussy

Claude Debussy was born on August 22, 1862 in Saint-Germain-Laye, France. Claude Debussy was part of a poor family in France, Debussy found his passion for the piano at a young age. Claude took lessons beginning at age seven and became a fantastic pianist. The only instrument Debussy played back then was piano, as he grew older he became great at other instruments as well. He died on March 25, 1918 in Paris, France of colorectal cancer.

Some of the important world inventions that happened in the end of the 1800’s were the automobile and the typewriter. Also in Claude Debussy’s time the first way of communicating by telephone was discovered. Telephones and electricity were very important things that were discovered in these times.

Claude Debussy was home schooled when he was a young boy. He didn’t go to school like his brothers and sisters. At age ten he began to attend the School of Fine Arts. Debussy Attended this school for eleven years.

The genre of some of his music included one of his works being Opera, some other works Solo Piano, others Symphony, and more Tone Poem. Some of his earlier works include: Clair de Lune/Suite Bergamasque (1890), Deux Arabesques (1888-1891), Prelude a l'apres-midi d’un faune (for flute, piano). Some of his middle works include: Pelleas et melisande (his one Opera work), Children’s Corner Suite (1908), La Fille Aux Cheveux De Lin (from the first book of preludes in 1910). Some of his later works weren’t just written for piano. One of these was: Sonata for Flute Viola and Harp.
