The American Civil War

The American Civil War or The War Between The States. Was a civil war in the united states, between the north and south states. Which resulted in abolishment of slavery in America and the conservation of the Union

After Abraham Lincoln won the presidential election by the end of 1860. He was looked upon as a threat against the maintentance of slavery by the south.

In February 1861. 7 south states left the Union and formed The Confederate States of America. Led by Jeff Davis as there president. While the Union were led by Abhram Lincoln and The Republican Party.

Slave labour played a major role for the production of cotton, tobacco, and rice in the South states. Where the North, on the other hand, industrialized and new built small farms.

Both states got supplied labour from Europa by immigrants.

The American Civil War officially began on April 12, 1861 when Confederate forces bombarded the Union controlled Fort Sumter in Charleston Bay and ended with, the South's General Robert E. Lee surrendered his troops to the North's General Ulysses Grant, at the Appomattox court house. However, fighting continued until May 9th, 1865.

The number of killed and wounded in the Civil War is not known precisely, most sources agree that the total number killed was between 640,000 and 700,000, broken down with over 360,000 Union soldiers and over 260,000 Confederate soldiers.

On December 6, 1865, eight months after the end of the Civil War, the United States adopted the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which outlawed the practice of slavery.
