Robert E. Lee

Ulysses S. Grant

The Civil War highlights some very important facts about the war that divided the North and the South. Prior to the war was the famous Dred Scott case that declared he, a slave, was still property in a free state. Other important facts about the Civil War included The Battle of Bull Run, the Emancipation Proclamation, Trench Warfare, Lincoln’s Reflection and much more.

Strengths and weaknesses: The Civil War, an Illustrated History by Catherine Clinton highlights the history of the causes that lead up to the war. She covered more battles than most teachers in classrooms today. And there are interesting facts about soldiers’ families and the children of those who fought in the War between the North and the South.

By:Carolyn Woodworth

Highlights: The Civil War can be used to show the differences in culture between the North and the South in the United States during the birth of our Country. The civil duties of Abraham Lincoln changed the nation as he freed the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation. Through the many stories in this book we are able to learn about the economy during war time.

Text-to-WorldIf not for the Civil War where would we be today? It doesn’t matter if we are male, or female, Indian, Asian, African American or Caucasian we are not afraid to stand and fight for our freedom and our rights. We fight for these rights because we are all equal.
