Today for this project im going to show the class a timeline of the main battles of the Civil War.

Time Line

1861

Fort Sumter

A series of powerful assaults against Robert E. Lee’s forces near Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862.

This most famous Civil War Battle occurred over three hot summer days, July 1 to July 3, 1863,a. It began as a skirmish but by its end involved 160,000 Americans.

The Battle of Appomattox Court House, fought on the morning of April 9, 1865, was the final engagement of Confederate States Army General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia before it surrendered to the Union Army under Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, and one of the last battles of the American Civil War

A movement of the Union army troops of General William Tecumseh Sherman from Atlanta, Georgia

His men, numbering about sixty thousand, destroyed railroads, factories, cotton gins, houses, livestock, and anything else that might be useful to the South in the war.

On April 12, 1861, General P.G.T. Beauregard, in command of the Confederate forces around Charleston Harbor, opened fire on the Union garrison holding Fort Sumter.
