Civil War Battles


It was located in Vicksburg, Mississippi. November 29th is when they attacked. They were part of the Union Army. Lead by Ulysses S. Grant. The Union Army won this battle. It is important to the United States because if we wouldve have stopped the Confederate Army things wouldv'e went down hill.

Battle of Atlanta

During May through September 1864 Sherman fought a series of battles forcing the Southern Army back to Atlanta. On November 15th they burned the city to the ground. August 31, 1864 Sherman's Army destroyed railroads in Tamesbero. the Northern forces captured Shermans forces in November 1864. This is important to the United States because Atlanta wouldnt be here if they didn't burn everything down and have to rebuild everything.

Fort Sumter

How the Civil War BeganOn April 12, 1861 the Confederate Amry attacked Fort Sumter. That happened in South Carolina. Abraham Lincoln called for 75,000 men to serve in the Union Army, and ordered a naval blockage on the Southern ports. It put a blockage on South Carolina to Texas on April 19,1861. 620,000 people died during this war. About 2/3 of the people died from diseases, wounds, or military prison hardships.


The first shots of the Civil War rang out on April 12, 1861, when the Confederate Army attacked Fort Sumter, South Carolina. The Confederate Army won this battle . The importance of this battle to the United States is that men actually sacrificed their lives by going out to fight for Abraham Lincoln Union Army to save the Southern ports. If they wouldn't have been saved by the blockage then they wouldn't still be here.

The Battle of Gettysburg started on July 1, 1863. and ended on July 3,1863. It was located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Union Army won this battle. It is important to the United states because after the Union Victory; there was a turning point of the war for the North because the Southern Army never recovered from the defeat.


The Battle of Antietam was on on September 17, 1862. It was fought at Antietam Creek, Maryland. The Union Army defeated the Confederate Army. It is important to the US History beacuse due to the amendment African Americans won an election in Georgia for the first time ever. It was called the Emancipation Proclamation.

How the Civil War BeganThis battle is considered a major battle because many men risked their lives to fight. During the wars there was history taking place and once they left from place to place they left a mark of history. By them leaving a mark of what happened it helped people draw and write what happened during that time and how they wanted us to know our past history. There was a turning point was for the North because the Southern Army couldnt recover from being defeated. The North gained Emancipation Proclamtion. Which was freeing slaves in the Confederate States. The South gained their freedom back.
