The Montgomery Boycott

The Civil Rights Movement got its start in the 1950s as returning African American veterans from world War II began demanding equal rights. After a decade of nonviolent protest and marches, ranging from the 1955-1956 Montgomery bus boycott to student-led sit-ins of the 1960s to the march on Washington in 1963; Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the voting Rights Act of 1965, guaranteering basic civil right for all Americans regardless of race.
