1) Mexican Benito Juarez become president of a country in fianancial ruin and he was forced to default on his debts to European goverments. In response, France, Britain, and Spain sent naval forces to Veracruz to demand reimbursement. Napoleon III, decided to use the opportunity to carve a dependent empire out of Mexican territory. Late in 1861, a well-armed French fleet stormed Veracruz, landing a large French force and driving President Juarez and his government into retreat.The French invaded Mexico, and with the help of the Mexican Conservative party, Louis Napoleon imposed Maximilian of Hapsburg as Mexico’s emperor in 1864.

2)The most common misconception is that "Cinco de Mayo" is the day Mexico Celebrates it's independence. No, Wrong! Actually Mexico Celebrates it's independence on September 16. Cinco de Mayo, meaning "the Fifth of May," is a Mexican Holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862.3) Battle fought at Puebla, Mexico, between the army of the liberal government headed by Benito Juárez and the French forces sent by Napoleon III to establish a French satellite state in Mexico. The battle, which ended in a Mexican victory.4) The Battle of Puebla took place on 5 May 1862 near the city of Puebla during the French intervention in Mexico. The battle ended in a victory for the Mexican Army over the occupying French forces.


5) The wars lasts for hours and it happened through (1861- 1867).6)The French Army was forced out of Mexico and the emperor, Maximillian, whom the French had installed as ruler of Mexico was deposed and executed. Mexico once more became a republic.

Others parts Mexico and Central and south America often don't acknowledge it.
