Customs and TraditionsRules of behavior in Chronology include that a person should be able to justify an activity in which they are participating. If a person is unable to explain the significance or gain from what they are doing the activity is considered a waste of that person’s time. The justification could be as simple as the activity makes that person happy. As long as the time is not null then any activity is acceptable to the point that it does not interfere with time allotted for priorities. Wasting one’s individual time is strongly frowned upon in chronology. Wasting the time of others is a crime of the highest order, and may be punished by having to perform unpleasant service for the community. New Years is the greatest holiday for the people of Chronology. On New Years, people reflect on the accomplishments of the previous year and celebrate the coming year, committing themselves to continue living life in the fullest way possible. The customs and traditions of the religion of Uhrianity reinforce the value of time, and make clear the social standards of what is worthy and not worthy of a person’s time.

ReligionPraising their one god, Father Time, the official religion of Chronology is Uhrianity*. Tenets of Uhrianity include the ideas that time is relative and has no end. They also believe that Father Time decides how long each person is given to live on Earth. The beliefs of the religion answer the meaning and purpose of life by explaining that people are meant to use the indefinite amount of time that they are given to live to the fullest and without wasting their life on unworthy actions or a lack of achievements. When people of Uhrianity die, they move on to another form of time that is not yet known to them. *(Uhr=clock in German)

Economic SystemChronology runs on a mixed economy where the government takes responsibility for necessary imports such as oil and staple foods. The culture, however, contains a large percentage of the world’s engineers. Because engineers are brilliant problem-solvers and are often developing new technologies to increase daily efficiency for anything not created by nature, they are valuable and highly respected by the culture of chronology. The engineers of the culture export many designs and products to the rest of the world, bringing in a majority of the culture’s profitf. The mixed economic system provides for the needs and wants of the people by producing needed technologies and innovations to trade to other cultures for necessities such as oil, and wants such as fashion items and certain frivolous foods.

Social Organization

Social OrganizationThe most common family system of Chronology is an extended family. People live with their parents and grandparents because the culture highly respects elders. Social rankings are determined based on one’s old age and their ability to be quick. Positions differ for young people who are the most quick and efficient in terms of movement and problem-solving and elders who have had plenty of experience in the world. The social organization fulfills its role in the culture by having parents, grandparents, and leaders teach their children and subjects the values of using time correctly. They learn how to use time effectively and also learn that old age is something to be highly regarded.

Arts and Literature

GovernmentGovernment is run in the form of a republic. A republic is an efficient form of government because there are only a few leaders who share equal leadership and responsibility. A few minds, when synchronized, will run things quickly while also having different perspectives viewing a problem. Leaders are chosen by the people in swift elections based on the candidate’s individual efficiency and their ability to make the best decisions in the least amount of time. Older-aged people are favored over younger ones because of the high regard for age and experience. Leaders making key decisions for the people handle any trading needs, and provide for all the needs of the people by understanding and solving situations in the optimum time.

LanguageLanguage of Chronology is English, but it is brief--spoken in abbreviations and footnotes. The point of speaking in such a manner is so that statements and stories are told to the point. Wasting words wastes time. All conversations have a purpose and Chronology does not accept the use of the words “like” or “um” ever. Leaders of the culture much prefer that people think about what they are going to say, and then speak what they were thinking in an efficient manner. Getting to the point in daily speech saves time. Without words being wasted through petty small talk, the idea passed down is that a person’s time is too valuable to misuse on non-important or non-enjoyable interactions.

Arts and LiteratureBeauty in the culture is represented through the significance of clocks. Clocks are represented in only the most charming and elegant forms. They symbolize the importance of punctuality and that time is forever moving forward. Most literature is meant for learning and the books contain many pictures. The arts and literature tell future generations the value of their time.
