Cholera can be treated with an oral rehydration solution, which is a mixture of sugar and salts to be mixed with large amounts of clean water and consumed.Antibiotics shortens cholera and make the symptoms less severe.In extreme cases, intravenous (IV) fluid replacement may be required.

Symptoms can appear after just a few hours to 5 days from infection. They include:

Treatment

Cholera is a disease that comes from infected food and water. It is found in areas with poor sewage and water treatment.

Dehydration can cause dry skin, mouth, and mucus membranes, a lack of tears, low urine output, a rapid pulse, fatigue, and nausea.

Prevention

In risk areas

•Use only bottled, boiled, canned, or chemically treated water for drinking, washing dishes, and cooking. Never use tap water!•Wash your hands often with soap and clean water! If no clean water is available, use sanitizer.•Eat only fully cooked meat and peeled or properly washed fruits and vegetables.•Eat fresh, hot meals and packaged food so that there is no cholera bacteria
