Chinatown

Most of the early Chinese immigrants in Singapore came from provinces in China such as Guangdong and Fujian.

ChinatownThere is a place known as Kreta Ayer in "Greater Town" where restaurants, theatres, and temples are concentrated. It is the most populated area where filth and dirt are hidden, No place in Singapore can compare with it.

These early Chinese immigrants made a humble living as hawkers, who made a familiar sight in Chinatown.

Most people would travel by jinricksha while goods were transported by bullock cart.

Chinese opera was a popular entertainment for the Chinese in those days. In the old days women were banned from the stage. Female roles were impersonated by men.
