China

ChopsticksThe Chinese have been using chopsticks for over 5,000 years. Chopsticks are made from bamboo or wood.

Dragon Dance

The Dragon Dance is performed during the Chinese New Year. Celebrating the Dragon is believed to bring good fortune, strength, and wisdom.

Rice Paddies

Rice is one of China's major crops. Rice seeds are planted in a muddy field. When the rice plants grow tall enough, they are moved into a larger field, called a paddy. Farmers then drain the fields and cut and dry the rice stalks. Finally, kernals are separated and the rice is stored.

Chinese Flag

The symbols on the Chinese Flag have many important meanings. The red of the flag stands for the communist revolt. The large star stands for communism. The four small stars represent the social classes of the people. Everyone has a job to do in China.
