Chile: government
Before:
Before the first Independence movements in the Republic of Chile, the peninsulares, or the representatives of the Crown on the American land, occupied public military and ecclesiastic charges because of their importance in the colonial Chile. However, there was a group between the XVII’ th century that kept growing. It was conformed by the criollos, or the Spanish descendants born in America. There were several factors that started with the process of independence in the Republic of Chile. First of all, the invasion of Spain by Napoleón Bonaparte later caused the opposition of the Spanish in front of the Napoleonic invasion and the capture and prison of Fernardo VII. In America, the capture of Fernardo VII in prison led the criollos to make an independent government as an act of loyalty to the Spanish crown. The group of criollos proper considered the establish of a new government on Chile headed by Mateo de Toro y Zambrano, which had as a purpose to take power until the king was freed from prison. As we can see, the first government assembly was based on loyalty, without any idea of independence, and ended in a rebellion against the crown. This occurred because of the new liberal ideas and the popular sovereignty. Once a leader was on power, and the first government assembly made, there was a summon to the creation of the National Congress, and starts the idea of popular representation as a base of the government. Later, José Miguel Carrera, character that leads the first independence movements, the independence arrived to a mayor point. During his reign, he created the first constitutional laws and the first newspaper and correspondents.
The actual government of Chile consists of 15 regions in which the government is held and applied in the different areas. Its legal system is based on the Spanish law and codes influenced by French and Austrian law, which are still present, even after the independence. The government is divided into three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. The legislative branch is held by the Senate, the executive branch by the chief of state, cabinet and the head of government, and the legislative branch by the Supreme Court. The government is divided into three branches to keep the form of checks and balances that used the Romans to distribute the power among the government. There are also ambassadors that represent the country and the government in different countries. The new government, established on 2010, is based on honesty. The government will have delegates and public charges based on the good work and skills, and not on social classes, unlike during the years of independence. The president of this country is Sebastian Piñera Echenique, who was elected by indirect democracy. The role of the president within the government is to manage it and direct it, with other people take important decisions and control the power over the different organizations within the country.
